Description

  • A Marble Head of Zeus
  • Height 10 1/2 in. 26.7 cm.
inspired by a Greek sculpture of the 5th Century B.C., probably the Olympian Zeus by Pheidias, with long full beard and moustache, large finely carved eyes with incised irises, and thick centrally parted hair of overlapping voluted curls, remains of drapery on the neck.

Condition

Nose and part of lower lip restored in marble with paint concealing joins, good surface overall except for pitted forehead and abrasions to proper left eyebrow, right side of beard, and top of hair in front, hairline crack from ear to ear across back of head.
