Description

  • A Marble Head of Eros
  • Height 7 in. 17.8 cm.
turned slightly to his right, his oval face with parted bow-shaped lips and almond-shaped eyes, the hair radiating from the crown, arranged in a braid on top, knotted above the forehead, and falling in voluted curls over the temples and neck, a lock of hair escaping over the forehead.

Provenance

California private collection, acquired from Spink & Son, London, in the late 1960s/early 1970s

Condition

Good, chin and nose tip abraded, multiple light scratches on face, proper right end of top knot fragmentary, fresh chip on back of voluted curl by proper left ear, areas of dark incrustation on proper left back of of head.
