Description

  • An Assyrian Gypsum Relief Fragment, Nineveh, probably from the south-west Palace of Sennacherib
  • 14 by 18 in. 35.6 by 45.7 cm.
carved in shallow relief with two soldiers facing left, each with beard arranged in rows of square curls, the soldier in front with large aquiline nose and almond-shaped eye, and wearing a conical helmet with ear-flap, the soldier behind him holding a mace(?) in his left hand, a sheathed dagger at his side.
