Catalogue Note

Rowlandson returned to the theme of cobblers numerous times throughout his career. A work, of very similar composition to the present watercolour, was sold in these Rooms on the 30th June 1986, lot 97, in which is included an inscription which identifies the cobbler as Mr Botch.
