Description

  • Ritratto equestre di John Churchill, duca di Marlborough, da bambino
  • olio su tela, senza cornice
    oil on canvas, unframed

Condition

The painting is warmer than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an old relining and the painting is offered in an engraved wooden frame. To the naked eye the paint surface is in general good condition, although a vertical line is visible along the whole central section of the painting (probably the old joint) and marginal discoloured retouchings are visible on the horse. Furthermore a plaster tear can be made out on the column on the left (as visible in the illustration). Uv inspection reveals minor scattered retouchings, especially along the mentioned vertical line along the centre of the painting, which do not affect the general good condition of the painting.
