- Autograph letter signed ("A. Einstein"), in German, to the Belgian Consul in Maastricht
thanking him for allowing him to cross the border into Belgium without a visa, noting that it was the first time that he had been required to show one, requesting a visa for the rest of the year, and enclosing his passport [not included with this lot], 1 page, large 8vo (20.6 x 15cm), Hotel Jamar, Spa, 13 August 1932, folded twice, light creasing

A somewhat chilling letter, written in the month of Einstein's appointment to the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton. He left Germany for the last time, never to return, a few months later on 10 December 1932.
