Description

  • 58.5cm, 23in high
the cast and chased triform bases each engraved with the crest of Howard and two others below a naked boy and vine entwined scroll stem, each with three silver detachable scroll branches and central light complete with drip pans, sconces and detachable nozzles

Provenance

Descended to Bernard Edward Fitzalan-Howard, 3rd Baron Howard of Glossop, (1885-1972)

Literature

J. M. Robinson, 'Carlton and the Stapletons: The History of a Recusant Family', The Connoisseur, Vol. 202, September 1979, p.19

Condition

Need some strightening, some of the screws to sconces need fixing and nozzles need to be checked for marks once they have been removed (at time of cataloguing they are stuck fast). The crest of Howard appears to be contemporary, whereas the other two are replacing what appear to be erased coats of arms.
