Description

  • 31.8cm, 12 1/2 in wide
oblong, the applied gadroon borders with leaf-flanked shells at intervals, detachable lion mask and foliate handles, the dishes engraved with a crest, the covers engraved with a coat-of-arms, variously stamped 396

Condition

With wear commensurate with use and age, borders a little worn; the handles have bayonet fittings, one of which is detached but fitting is still with lot, hallmarks quite good, engraving good. For further queries on this lot please contact the Silver Department directly on +44(0)207.293.5558.

Catalogue Note

The arms are those of Howard impaling Leveson-Gower for Henry Charles Howard, Earl of Surrey (1791-1856), who succeded as 13th Duke of Norfolk on the death of his father in 1842. He married in 1814 Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower (d. 1870), daughter of the 1st Duke of Sutherland.
