Description
comprising a near pair, a further group of three similar chairs, Charles II, 17th century and later and a set of three Charles II style chairs, late 19th century (8)
Provenance
Probably acquired by Miles Thomas Stapleton, 8th Lord Beaumont (1805 - 1854). Thence by descent.
Literature
Catalogue of All the Furniture and Effects in Carlton Hall Selby, 1854, p.58, possibly listed as part of a set of ten chairs in the 'The Armour Room, North Wing of the Hall leading from the Gallery' as '10 old oak chairs'
Condition
Good general condition. Old marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Some of the early chairs have replaced components. These chairs were 'working' chairs at Carlton Towers, they were moved around a lot and as a result show the kind of wear and the sorts of estate repairs that one would expect.
