Provenance

Sir Charles Henry Tempest, 1st Bt. (1834 - 1894), thence by descent to Ethel Mary Tempest (1869 - 1937) who married Miles Stapleton, 10th Lord Beaumont (1850 - 1895) thence by descent.

Condition

Generally good condition. There are cracks along the lines of construction to the top which will need filling. One has been restored but will require further work. The pewter is tarnished but is nicely engraved. The veneer on the top ha been restored but this has not been well executed and would benefit from a more sympathetic restoration. The pewter at the top of the legs has been varnished. There are minor losses to veneer on stretcher which can be easily replaced. The ebonising and gilding on feet is chipped and needs touching up. There is a horizontal crack to the frieze drawer. There is a restored break to the bottom of the drawer. There are some mouldings missing to the top of the feet which will need replacing.
