Condition

The work is executed on brown wove paper that has been stuck down to the mount beneath. The work has faded, probably due to prolonged exposure to sunlight. There is a light surface scratch within the lower left quadrant. There are spots of foxing to the chin of the left hand figure, and to the figures right side. Under glass and presented in a simple wooden frame, with a cream mount. Unexamined out of its frame.

Catalogue Note

The present lot depicts William Nicholson and his Brother-in-law James Pryde. J. & W. Beggarstaff was the pseudonym used by the duo for their poster design company, which produced works from 1894 to 1899.
