Catalogue Note
L'Instruction du Chrestien ou catéchisme de Luçon (Avignon, 1619), première publication théologique de Richelieu alors écarté du pouvoir, avait séduit les gallicans, les ennemis des jésuites et de l'Espagne par son langage habile, fluide et brillant. L'ouvrage fut traduit en turc, en arabe et même imprimé en Amérique. Revenu à la direction du royaume de France en 1624, Richelieu ne trouvera le temps d'écrire une suite à L'Instruction du Chrestien qu'à partir de 1636. Il meurt en 1642, sans avoir vu la publication des Traité de la perfection du chrestien (1646) et de ce Traité qui contient la méthode pour convertir les hérétiques (1651).
