Description
Arabic manuscript on cream paper, 437 leaves, 12 lines to the page in lithographed naskhi script in black ink, verses separated by gold rosettes with alternating blue and red dots, sura headings in white against black ground cartouches heightened with colours and gold, illuminated marginal devices comprising single and double roundels issuing floral sprays, double page frontispiece with added colours and gold, leather binding with gilt doublures and flap
Condition
In very good overall condition, slight rubbing to the gilded binding, leaves fresh and clean, very minor nibbles and losses to opening double page, as viewed.

Catalogue Note
Qur'ans were among the earliest books to be printed using lithography in the 19th century. The more common 'movable type' form of printing was considered unsuitable as the compromises it requires to link the Arabic letters were thought inappropriate for the rendering of the sacred text.
