Condition

The canvas is not lined. SURFACE: In good condition. A 2 1/2 inch, horizontal repair in the sky between the rifle butt and backpack. Scattered areas of flaking in the brown impasto of the dirt with associated pigment losses: at lower left along the side edge, at bottom right, at center along bottom edge, below the bottom of the figure's left trouser. Stretcher marks. Minor surface soiling throughout. UNDER UV: No apparent inpainting (repair has been retouched but does not flouresce strongly).
