Catalogue Note
Marine iconography is abundantly portrayed in Sicán and later Chimu elite objects. The mythic origins of both peoples feature the leaders arriving by sea. See L'Or du Perou (1988:137, no. 130), for a beaker with similar aquatic iconography.
