Catalogue Note

This painting is sold with an accompanying Red Rock Art certificate that reads in part: 'Warla is a place on the Great Sandy Desert south west of Balgo Hills in northern Western Australia. It is a very significant and sacred place that was critical to the survival of people when living a traditional lifestyle. The artist describes the country as "flat like an airport". It contains rock holes, many of which are sacred burial places and many are important waterholes crucial to survival. If travelling through this area, you really should go "right around". When the big rains come, the flat expanse becomes a lake and as the water recedes, the rock holes are renewed with fresh water'.
