Catalogue Note
D'une enfance passée sur les routes avec sa mère aux écoles d'art de Paris, Marie Bashkirtseff retrace dans son journal, rédigé en français dans un style, devenant au fil des pages, vif, incisif, emporté et parfois un peu rustre, sa vie nomade, ses relations épistolaires avec des auteurs renommés (Maupassant...), son apprentissage de l'art, une soif insatiable de reconnaissance et, en filigrane, un besoin absolu de liberté. Lorsqu'elle tombe malade en 1884, elle voit dans ce journal son unique chance de laisser une trace, et meurt à 26 ans de la tuberculose.
