Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: The painting has been lined using wax as an adhesive. The surface is stable. The paint layer appears to be mostly clean, although remnants of old varnish still exist around the edges and in a few spots in the sky. Care should be take if further cleaning is attempted since Schreyer's technique is rather glaze-oriented and abrasion can very often occur quickly in the darker colors. Under ultraviolet light some colors fluoresce slightly stronger than other yet there has been much, if any restoration. Although slight strengthening may have occurred in the darker colors of the horses, this could also be some original glazes. We recommend that the picture be hung in its current state.
