Catalogue Note

Constructed of finely figured hardwood, this Chinese Export center table is based on an English prototype.  Even though the form is English, the carving and decorative elements are purely Chinese: the shaped panels to the frieze, the delicately carved apron, the leaf carving to the cabriole legs and the claw-and-ball feet can all be found on Chinese furniture of the 17th/18th century.
