Catalogue Note

The artist was inspired to create this painting when he picked up a peculiar shaped pine cone during one of his travels. The center of this painting is dominated by an exaggerated, huge pine cone. This compositional characteristic activates the surface of the canvas. The personification of the seed infused the painting with a dynamic and leaping emotion, as if there is an atmospheric flow within it.

Seed + 18 F 2007 demonstrates the life course of a seed where external environment determines its signs of life. Some seeds fall onto fertile soil while some fall on barren ground; this creates a completely different result. The artist employs the techniques of expressionism and automatism to display strong, bold lines and spontaneous colours. This symbolizes the exuberant vitality, as well as what happens in the process of the phenomenon of life.
