Catalogue Note

Chuang Che has entered the field of Abstract Art since 1962. From the simple abstraction of cursive handwriting and structure of characters, he gradually turned to abstract landscapes composed primarily with lines. During the period from 1973 to 1987, he moved to the beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan. During his stay there, the weather was mercurial- sometimes it was sunny and sometimes it snowed heavily. His paintings, as a result, often displayed country scenes and imparted a lonely atmosphere.

Zion is a common religious reference to a specific mountain near Jerusalem (Mount Zion), on which stood a Jebusite fortress of the same name that was conquered by David and was named the City of David.
