Condition

Original canvas, squared for transfer. The canvas ground is showing through in areas and there are splashes of old staining in the bottom right corner, visible in the catalogue illustration, otherwise in good original condition. Under ultraviolet light, there appear to be no signs of retouching. Held in a stained wood frame under glass; unexamined out of frame. Catalogue Note

Executed circa 1934, the present work is based on earlier drawings executed circa 1912-1913 and the seated man in the background was called Hubby and was a frequent model of Sickert's between 1911 and 1914.
