The Maison a l'Escalier de Cristal was established in 1802 by the widow Mme Désarnaud, née Marie-Jeanne-Rosalie Charpentier. The firm exhibited with great acclaim at the 1819 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie held at the Louvre, Paris. The luxury store of A l'Escalier de Cristal supplied decorative works of art of the highest quality to the ruling families in Europe throughout the 19th century. The attribution of the present lot to the firm is based on the fact that Escalier de cristal decorative taste and creations featured often Chinese or Japanese decorative elements rendered alwayswith high quality bronzes and unique design.
