According to Vidar Poulsson, the present work was painted circa 1905.

Thaulow's successful rapport with London audiences began during his participation in the first Exhibition of the International Society in Knightsbridge in 1898. Following this exposure he exhibited at diverse venues the year after in order to attract a larger British clientele.
