Condition
Apart from a hairline crack to the board's surface at the upper left edge (approx. 2.3cm.), the board is in good condition, flat and even. There are scattered very minor flecks of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, notably to the aforementioned crack. Apart from scattered very fine craquelure and some light frame rubbing to the lower edge, this work is in very good condition, with rich colours and fine detail. Held in a decorative, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame.
On the reverse of the present work there is a handwritten authentication label by the artist's nephew: Umseitiges Bild (Links Gebirge, rechts Meeresküste) 11 x 22, ist von meinem Onkel Carl Spitzweg gemalt. Otto Spitzweg (The painting on the recto, mountains to the left, coast to the right, 11 x 22, was painted by my uncle Carl Spitzweg. Otto Spitzweg)
