Catalogue Note

From 1883 onwards, Mancini started to use an iron grid, one in his paintings and one in front of the model in order to get a better perspective and to paint 'exactly after nature'. He overpainted the grid with thick layers of paste, in which he put pieces of glass and mirror to get a more brilliant result and enhance the effects of light.

The present lot is an excellent example of Mancini's unique and advanced method of painting.
