Condition
The catalogue illustration is too orange in color and the cabinet has a softer, warmer, nuttier tone than in the catalogue illustration. The top with old scratches and stains. The doors with a very slight bow, to the centers of the side doors and to the top of the front right door. Overall a very attractive cabinet with superb color and patination in a good country house condition with old marks and scratches consistent with age and use.

Catalogue Note
This cabinet may be compared with a rosewood commode supplied by Gillows, c. 1800, Clonbrock House, C. Galway, which has similar outset rounded corners above turned tapering stiles which are line-inlaid, not reeded as in the present example (See: Francis Collard, Regency Furniture, Woodbridge, 1985, p. 83). A number of cabinet-pieces and tables with similar turned and tapered stiles inset above rounded corners are also illustrated in Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Lindsay Boynton, London, 1995. A closely related pair of cabinets, attributable to the same maker, was sold in these rooms, December 12, 1996, lot 165.
