each with a tall rectangular over-upholstered back and seat, the straight upholstered arms with square molded incurved support, the turned legs with shaped brackets and joined by ring turned H-stretchers and supported on out-turned claw and ball toes.

Condition

The old surface with usual scuffs and scratches and slightly dry. The left front toe of one chair rubbed with small losses. Later blocks. Upholstery lacking some springs and requiring new upholstery overall.

Catalogue Note

An identical pair of chairs were sold in these rooms, April 19, 2001, lot 509 with a provenance of Joseph Leeson, 1st Earl of Milltow (d. 1783) for Russborough, Co. Wicklow, in the 1750s, possibly for the saloon.
