Description

  • height 40 1/2 in.; width 24 1/4 in.; width open 50 1/4 in.; depth 23 3/4 in.
  • 102.9 cm; 61.6 cm; 127.6 cm; 60.3 cm
in two parts, a small desk with a galleried shelf and a roll-top lid opening to reveal a case fitted with six pigeon holes with fixed valances over drawers; the desk is attached to a rectangular top with two D-shaped leaves above a case with two drawers, the bottom conformingly shaped to the D-shaped leaves, supported on two rectangular columns joined by a turned stretcher raised on four saber legs terminating with cast brass paw casters.

Condition

Refinished, roll top removable, numerous patches to edge veneering, top has been of and re-glued with later glue blocks, demi-lune drawer with minor shaving to back edge and sides, the interior compartment has been sanded or shaved to assist in sliding of drawers, butterflies have had wedges added to their tips, legs have been strengthened with screws that are now plugged and with old repaired breaks to front legs, hardware is not original, abrasions, scrapes and dents to legs, later leather lined writing surface, patch to proper left front portion of rule joint , two 1 inch by 3 inch patches to top drawer divider, some old repairs to gallery with areas of inpainting, front left and right downswept legs with old plugged repaired breaks and with some infilling and inpainting, back left leg with spliced repair to foot, some minor patches to veneers, loss to some veneer beneath each bracket drop leaf support, overall with some old marks, scratches, scuffs and bruises consistent with age and use.
