Condition
The colours are slightly fresher than the illustration suggests.
Original canvas. There are some old stretcher bar marks and some scattered lines of surface craquelure to the sky and some further minor lines in the foreground. There is also a diagonal line of surface craquelure to the hills approx 8in. from the left edge, visible in the catalogue illustration. The varnish has discoloured and there are some scattered spots of surface dirt and staining, otherwise in good original condition.
Under ultraviolet light, there appear to be no signs of retouching.
Held in a plaster gilt frame with canvas inset.
