Catalogue Note
Engonopoulos is best known as a pioneering proponent of surrealism in Greek painting and literature. In his imagery, the association of reality and myth, classical and modern, embodies the preoccupations of modern Greece, and often, as in the case of the present work, other cultures with deep roots in classical antiquity, through the routes of the subconscious.
