Catalogue Note

The biscuit kiln records in April and May 1756 mention a plateau en forme de corbeille. The inventory of the stock in January 1757 list six plateaux d'après les corbeilles. The plateau triangle corbeille à jours was used either in a dinner service or as tray for a déjeuner. In December 1755, among the bleu céleste service delivered by the Vincennes factory to Louis XV were 4 corbeilles triangles de 8 p. at 300 livres each. The four are in the collection of the Duke of Buccleuch at Boughton House (Pierre Grégory, « Le service bleu céleste de Louis XV à Versailles : quelques pièces retrouvées », La Revue du Louvre, 1982, pp. 40-46 and David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, 2005, Vol II, n° 55-1, pp. 287-290). An example of a déjeuner on a plateau corbeille triangle à jours with milk jug, sugar bowl and a cup and saucer dated E for 1757-58 was in the collection of Earl of Dudley, (Christie's London, May 21st 1886, lot 109) and recently sold in Paris (Collection de Mr. et Mme X., Etude PIASA, Hotel Drouot, 19th May  2006, lot 103).
Two plateau corbeille triangle à jours with trophies on a green ground very similar to our tray and also dated 1758 were sold by Sotheby's London, 26th November 1963, lot 90 and Christie's London, 9-12 October 1995, lot 100.
