Description

  • interlaced and crowned LL mark in blue, letter-date MM, painter's mark Y
  • 32cm., 12½in.
of oval form, painted by Bouillat with scattered sprigs of roses, a foliate garland running around the border bellow a gilt dentil rim, the leaf-shaped scrolled handles picked out in gilding; chip to three lobes, shallow chip to foot rim

Condition

Shallow chip to foot rim extending to edge, tips of three chips lobed, each about 1cm.

Catalogue Note

This seau crénelé is recorded in the artists' ledgers in 26th March 1789 against Bouillat Père works but according to David Peters, it was not part of the supplements of the service roses et feuillage delivered to Louis XVI (David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, 2005, Vol III, n°83-3, p. 671 and vol. VI, p. 1294).
