Condition

Some minor sections of veneer missing, e.g. top of the right front stile of one, the front of the right and left stiles of same one. Some very minor restorations to the veneer which have been very well executed. It is possible that the flowerhead mounts on the stiles are associated. There is some very minor bubbling to the veneer on the rockwork section on the left door of one. The shelves internally have been stained. The internal locking mechanism on one of the doors is missing and the veneer on the inside of the doors on one encoignure is more distressed than on the other. An attractive lot in overall good condition.

Catalogue Note

Brice Péridiez died 1757.
He received his maîtrise before 1738 as he does not appear in the list which only came into existence after that date. He was established in rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine and  was known for his good quality Louis XV pieces veneered in tulipwood, kingwood and sometimes decorated with cube parquetry and floral marquetry.

Jean-Baptiste Tuart received Master 1741.
His workshop was established in the cloister of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois and he received various commissions from the Menus-Plaisirs between 1744 and 1753. His stamp is found mainly on classically good pieces of furniture in the Louis XV style, such as commodes, encoignures, bureaux plats, secrétaires plain veneered or in floral marquetry.
A pair of transitional floral marquetry  encoignures stamped Tuart, was sold Christie's Monaco, 5th December 1993, lot 210.
