Catalogue Note
An identical teabowl and its saucer are illustrated by Jörg 1997, p. 213, no. 236, who cites the inscription and its translation as: "Gong ming fu gui jiachen huazhao yie yu Zhujiang jingshe, 'Honour and riches. Written on the day of the flowers in the year jiachen [1724] in a beautiful house on the Zhujiang river', and a seal mark in pink, reading Baishi, 'white stone'." Dr. Jörg goes on to comment that inscribed pieces of this type seem "to be absent from the available literature, which makes this a particularly rare and important specimen." A pair of teabowls and saucers identically decorated and inscribed was sold at Sotheby's in Monte Carlo on May 27, 1980, lot 1034.
