  • diameters 3 1/8 and 4 13/16 in.
  • 7.9 and 12.2 cm
each painted on the front or in the center with the arms of Viscount Barrington quartering Shute, with grand quarters of the Royal Arms (before 1603), and with Lovell quartering Layton and Cole in pretence between the gilt griffin supporters of Barrington on blue scrolls entwining a pink banderole inscribed with the motto HONESTA QUAM SPLENDIDA, the interior rim with a gilt spearhead border.

Condition

Both pieces with wear to gilding on edge, saucer with 5 small restored chips on outer edge of rim between 8 and 10 o'clock, slight wear to gilding on the arms and spearhead border.

The teapot from this service made for William Wildman, 2nd Viscount Barrington (1717-93) and his wife, Mary Lovell, is illustrated by Howard 2000, p. 309, no. P16, and was part of the aforementioned part tea and coffee service.
