- A monumental low bookcase
- cupboard door stamped `GILLOW & CO. 4566'
- 146cm. high by 427cm. long by 51cm. deep;
- 4ft 9½in., 14ft, 1ft 8in.
walnut and inlaid with stylised foliate roundels and dot inlay, the central section with a pair of glazed cupboard doors enclosing three adjustable shelves flanked by conforming glazed doors on turned supports, at either end a pedestal cabinet with a foliate frieze above a panelled door enclosing further adjustable shelving, the whole flanked and divided by columnar supports with foliate cappings
Condition
A massive and imposing piece. There are old marks and scratches overall consistent with age and use and some dirt to the surface. Some staining to top. The interior of the cupboards bear signs of ink. There is some wear and scratching to the brass handles in places. One shelf in the glazed section and another in the right hand cupboard are later replacements. Inside edge of left hand cupboard with restored plinth. Overall, this piece would benefit from a cleaning. Remnants of adhesive tape to rail above two pairs of glazed doors. A number of shelf rests missing. A number of pin-holes to inside right cupboard door. Piece is good and solid.
