- A rare and important vase

porcelain, the tapering body enamelled and gilded with stylised leaf devices
Condition
This is a striking and rare example of this iconic vase. It has apparently been in pieces and has been restored. There is some wear to the gilding. However, the quality of the restoration could certainly be improved upon.

Catalogue Note
This design was first exhibited at the 1867 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Only two other examples are known to exist, both in similarly restored condition. These are in private collections; one appears in Widar Halen, Christopher Dresser, London, 1990, pl. 101.Another example is illustrated in Joan Jones, Minton, The First Two Hundred Years of Design & Production, Shrewsbury, 1993, p. 99, with its design on p. 100.
