Condition
STRUCTURE
This picture is relined and in good condition although it would benefit from a clean and the removal of a layer of discoloured and uneven varnish that has yellowed the surface and given an uneven colouring. There are several scratches to the paint surface; notably close to the signature, at the horizon line close to the right edge of the picture and in the sky. There are small areas of flaking paint in the foreground and two small areas of fine craquelure; around the standing dog and on the pony's saddle. There are a few areas where the paint surface is a little thin; notably the head of the sheep in the centre of the composition and on the seated dog. The condition problems are not major and could be easily rectified by a professional restorer with beneficial results.
UNDER ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT
There is a small area of retouching on the skirt of the woman and in the water close to the birds in flight. There are also minor flecked retouchings in the sky. These retouchings are not excessive and have been well executed.
FRAME
This picture is contained in a moulded plaster frame which would benefit from being replaced.
