Catalogue Note
In the 1930s Cadell painted a series of cockerel subjects of which the present works are two fine examples. Cockerels were a particularly charming subject for Cadell as the movement and energy they possess allowed him an extra freedom with his brush. The bright colours and rich impasto in the present pair of works show the full range of Cadell's dexterity on an intimate scale. These lively paintings reflect Cadell's flamboyant, humorous and light-hearted personality.
