Description
- height: 37cm., 14½in
of campana form, the body finely painted with a reproduction of The Violin Player by Gerard Dou, flanked by ribbed and foliate stirrup handles issuing from female classical heads, the reverse decorated with gilded and vari-coloured gothic ornament on a rich pink ground, the lower bulbous body moulded with scrolling acanthus leaves, on a flared pink and gilded striped foot with circular laurel and berry frieze, square base, with blue Imperial cypher for Nicholas I

Gerard Dou's Violin Player, dated 1665, was held in the Miloradovich Collection in St Petersburg until 1826 when it was acquired by the Hermitage.
