Catalogue Note
The Order of the White Eagle was originally Polish, founded in 1325 and revived by Augustus the Strong in 1705. After Russian annexation of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw in 1815 it was retained for Polish subjects and its use was greatly extended following the Insurrection of 1831. It was effectively incorporated into the Russian awards system and could be presented for either Civil or Military merit. Unlike other Imperial Orders, however, it had no Feast Day and carried no pension.
