Description

  • 47.5 by 41cm., 18 3/4 by 16in.
depicting the prophet Elijah on one side being brought bread by a raven, and the Virgin of the Sign on the other, with a silver-gilt chased basma

Condition

The basma is not original, although probably dating from the same period as the icon, but is a later addition, circa 1900. There are several minor paint losses on both sides and there is some minor retouching. The eyes of the Mother of God, particularly the left eye, have been retouched. We would advise prospective buyers to view.
