Catalogue Note

The iconography here is relatively rare with the entire narrative scene depicted. Christ can be seen going up the mountain with the Apostles where the transfiguration then takes place. Our eye then follows the descent from the mountain. God the father is depicted on the upper border and the prophets Elijah and Moses can be seen being brought by angels on clouds to the scene of the Transfiguration. Elijah is brought from heaven, and Moses from his grave. The Garden of Paradise is also depicted here on the top left of this very well preserved icon.
