Description

  • 64 by 48cm., 25 1/4 by 19in.
the Mother of God holding the Christ Child on her right arm who looks up at his mother and lovingly stretches his arm around her neck, the background and border decorated with floral motifs formed from a gesso raised relief

Condition

There is some minor paint loss, and some candle damage to the lower border. We would advise prospective buyers to view.

Catalogue Note

The inscription at the bottom of the icon relates the story of the orginal apparition of the Feodorovkaya Mother of God. It explains that this is a copy of that original, which appeared on the 16th August 1239, an event that is celebrated on the 14th March and that it appeared to Grand Prince Vasilii Georgievich Kvashnya of Kostroma and Galich.
