Description

  • height: 15cm., 6in.
with six miniatures depicting St. George the Warrior Saint, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, St. Alexander Nevsky, the Archangel Michael, Mary the Mother of God with the Christ Child and Jesus Christ, all surmounted by inscriptions in Cyrillic and gold burnished borders, the top of the egg decorated with a foliate pattern

Condition

In excellent condition. There are very many surface scratches consistent with age which do not detract from the overall appearance of the piece.

Catalogue Note

This porcelain egg is unusual for both its size and the intricacy of its painting. It is rare to see eggs with such decoration and, in particular, one with six full length miniatures that go all the way around the egg.
