Catalogue Note

The offered lot is a superlative example of the work of Samuel Wehl, a bronzesmith active in St. Petersburg in the 1840s and famous for producing cases for mantelpiece clocks. Wehl's clocks were often executed in the French style and were much sought after by his wealthy Russian clientele.
