Condition

There are some creases to the board in the top right corner and light creasing and surface scratches in places throughout. UV light reveals some patches of retouching and an uneven layer of discoloured varnish. Held in a painted wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.

This self portrait underlines the influence of Symbolism in Boris Anisfeld's earliest work. The artist portrays himself half-hidden in a spray of colour suggestive of his contemporary, Nikolai Milliotti.
