Condition

An imposing and impressive example of Chiparus's chryselephantine sculpture in good overall condition. One or two very minor hairline cracks to ivory. Attractive patina. Base with some old marks and scratches and a few minor chips. Elegant and ready for display. This piece contains ivory, which may be subject to export and import restrictions. Ivory cannot be imported into the United States. Your attention is drawn to the Endangered Species section in the Guide for Prospective Buyers at the back of the sale catalogue.

The black full-body suit open only at the face may be inspired by Pavel Tchelitchew's costumes for the Ballets Russes' production of Ode.
