Condition

The canvas has been laid on board. There is a layer of surface dirt and discoloured varnish. There is a line of craquelure running to the left of the sitter and spots of staining throughout. There are a few minor flecks of paintloss in places. UV light reveals a layer of uneven varnish, the presence of which prevents a more conclusive examination. Held in a embossed leather case with gilt detail. There is wear and loss to the leather. Unexamined out of case. The painting would benefit from a professional clean.
